The complete Goliath Roofing service range
Under the general 'roofing' umbrella we deliver eight core specialisms: flat roof replacement and repair (EPDM, GRP, felt), ridge tile installation (both dry-ridge mechanical and traditional mortar systems), roof inspections (standard free and pre-purchase paid), lead flashing installation and repair (Code 4/5 to BS EN 12588), roof leak diagnosis and permanent repair, complete roof installation and re-roofing for residential and commercial properties, chimney repair (repointing, rebuilds, flaunching, removal), and tile/batten/breathable membrane replacement (including nail-sickness remediation and Type LR underlay upgrades). Whichever discipline your property needs, it comes from the same team with the same guarantee.
How we decide what your roof actually needs
Every job starts with a free standard inspection, external, from ground and where safe from access equipment. We check tile/slate condition, ridge and hip alignment, flashing integrity, chimney stack condition, gutters and fascia, valleys, and any visible underlay through the eaves. Internally we look for staining, timber discolouration, and condensation signs. We then give you a written report categorising the roof as: (1) sound with monitoring, (2) targeted repair needed, (3) partial re-cover needed, or (4) full re-roof economical. We tell you honestly which category applies; we don't up-sell a re-roof if a repair holds, and we don't paper over a failing roof with repeated patches.
Residential vs commercial roofing, what changes
Residential work covers pitched roofs (tile, slate, concrete), traditional flat roofs on extensions and dormers (EPDM, GRP, felt), lead work, chimney work, and full re-roofs on Victorian, inter-war, post-war and modern properties. Commercial work covers larger flat roof systems on warehouses, industrial units, offices and workshops, plus pitched commercial roofs. The team, the guarantees, the insurance cover and the fixed-price quoting are identical across both; we just scale the crew (2–5 roofers) and access equipment to the job size. Larger commercial roofs get phased quoting so operations can continue during the works.
Materials, standards and compliance we work to
Ridge systems installed to BS 5534 (current UK Code of Practice for slating and tiling). Breathable underlays to BS 5250 (Type LR). Lead flashing to BS EN 12588 (Code 4/5 milled lead). Fixings and mechanical fasteners to BS 5534 wind-uplift calculations. Flat roof systems installed to manufacturer specification for EPDM (typically 20-year material warranty), GRP (typically 25-year), and modern high-performance felt (typically 15–20 year). Every job we complete meets current British Standards, that's the baseline, not a premium option.
24/7 emergency response, what it actually covers
Emergency response means we answer the phone around the clock and mobilise a make-safe visit for storm damage, active water ingress, structural concerns after impact damage, and any situation where the property is currently taking on water. Make-safe stabilises the situation (temporary weatherproofing, tarpaulin, debris removal) so you're not taking damage overnight. A follow-up quote for permanent repair is issued afterwards at fixed price. Emergency call-outs across York, Thirsk, Ripon, Wetherby, Malton, Pocklington, Easingwold, Tadcaster and Dunnington.
What our guarantees actually mean in writing
Full re-roofs and new installations: 10-year written workmanship guarantee covering our labour and installation quality (materials additionally carry their own manufacturer warranties, typically 20–25 years for EPDM/GRP and 40–60 years for tile/slate systems). Repairs and smaller works: 5-year written workmanship guarantee. All guarantees are in writing, provided at job completion, and transferable to a new owner if you sell the property, which is a genuine value-add on your home's saleability.
